The goddess is Artemis or Diana.  Diana is chiefly a fertility goddess.  Indeed people worship her under various names throughout the Mideast.

The “classical” gods of Greek and Roman mythology were also in the Bible. In one story people tried to worship Paul also Barnabas  as Greek or Roman gods.   People were offering to worship them as what specific Greek or Roman gods?  I’m looking for specific names here.

Barnabas was Zeus or Jupiter. Paul was Hermes or Mercury. They were not at all flattered and instead, preached the true God to the people.

Still fighting a cold these days but otherwise all is going well. Getting back into the swing of things for the New Year

The topic for this week is other gods. Many of the surrounding societies had god’s but they are and remain statues made by human hands. Our God is not a statue he is a living being whom we indeed cannot fully understand. But since they are in the Bible let’s take some time to talk about other gods.
